FORT WASHINGTON, Md. — Brian Frazier’s Nite Time Deal rode the pocket behind a brewing duel on the far turn and emerged up the open stretch to post a 1:52.1 score in Thursday’s (Oct. 15) $10,000 distaff pacing feature at Rosecroft Raceway.
In line to Fern Paquet Jr., the 7-year-old American Ideal-Midnight Art mare sprinted to a clear lead through a :26.3 first quarter before yielding control to 3-5 favorite Square Deal (driven by Tony Morgan) with a circuit to go. After drafting behind middle splits of :55.3 and 1:23.4, Nite Time Deal found herself boxed on the far turn as Fear The Britches (Russell Foster) offered intensifying first-over pressure to the pacesetter.
Off the turn for home, Paquet angled Nite Time Deal to the open stretch, and she surged forward to win by a widening length. Go Now (Tim Deaton) rallied around cover to narrowly nab Fear The Britches for second; Square Deal finished a beaten fourth.
Jacob Fox trains 24-time winner Nite Time Deal, who paid $12 to win as the 5-1 third choice.
Live harness racing returns to Rosecroft on Monday (Oct. 19) with another 13-race program; the carryover for the 50-cent Jackpot Hi-5, which is offered in the final race, stands at $6,964.58. First post is 7:15 p.m.
